Mayor Lynn Crawford, Village Manager Ron Sena & Deputy Village Manager Heath Dobrovolny: Discussed the recent utility bill increase, including how the Village acquires water rights and how those rights are valued on a per-acre-foot basis. They also addressed social media discussion surrounding Bonito Lake, which is owned by Alamogordo, and reports that officials there are considering fencing the lake and limiting public access.
Fire Chief Cade Hall: Reported that the recent residential fire in Apache Hills was ruled accidental by the State Fire Marshal and that the investigation is now closed. He also provided an update on the Sunset Fire near Arabela, reporting 62% containment and the suspension of U.S. Forest Service air support operations, and announced that annual fire hydrant testing begins this week.
Public Works Director Levi Beaty: Updated listeners on the 603 Mechem housing project, noting that paving began last week and that the project remains on schedule for completion this week, weather permitting.
Parks & Recreation Director Matthew Baird: Responded to a listener question about lawn maintenance at Gavilan Canyon Cemetery and discussed the possibility of additional parking on the south side of the dog park and lighting for the pickleball courts.
Manager of Events & Strategic Partnerships Eddie Ryan & Events Coordinator Christina Newberry: Ryan addressed a listener question about a possible amphitheater in Wingfield Park, explaining that he is working with Ruidoso Midtown Association Executive Director Tim Duckworth to explore potential grant funding for the project. He also introduced Christina Newberry as the Village’s new Events Coordinator.
Wingfield Heritage House Museum Curator Stephanie Long: Recapped Saturday’s Family Fun Day, reporting strong attendance from both guests and volunteers.
Police Chief Steve Minner & Deputy Chief Jason Janopolous: Reviewed police activity from the previous week, including a minor traffic accident that resulted in a DUI arrest. They also discussed the Outlaws SXS Rally, which brought approximately 400 side-by-side vehicles to the Village, and reports of vehicles using LED light bars that are not legal for street use. Chief Minner also discussed reports that an individual linked to the Toy Box Killer case in Truth or Consequences, who was released from prison around 2020, is reportedly living in the area.
