Heath Dobrovolny, Deputy Village Manager, discussed the extensive cleanup efforts following last Friday’s flooding event, highlighting the work completed by multiple Village departments and outside contractors to clear debris and address storm damage.
Eric Queller, Emergency Manager, provided a weather update, noting that forecast models continue to indicate an active flooding pattern. Storms are expected to develop over both the South Fork and Salt burn scars, creating the potential for additional flooding.
Assistant Fire Chief Austin Meuli shared an update on the Village’s new ladder truck, which has been delivered to Albuquerque for equipment installation and decals before being placed into service. He also announced that the Village has returned to Fire Restrictions Level I following recent rainfall and improved conditions.
Levi Beaty, Public Works Director, discussed the damage sustained in Perk Canyon during last Friday’s flooding event, explained how recent roadwork in Paradise Canyon helped mitigate some of the impacts, and provided an update on the ongoing 603 Mechem project.
Eddie Ryan, Manager of Events & Strategic Partnerships, provided information on the upcoming XTERRA World Championships in October and discussed ideas being considered to improve traffic flow during next year’s IRONMAN event, particularly at the “Y” intersection on Highway 70.
Matthew Baird, Parks & Recreation Director, discussed changes to the youth sports program, including the decision to remove fall soccer from this year’s schedule due to increased participation in other fall sports and a shortage of available fields. He also spoke about the challenges and costs of identifying and developing new locations for sports fields.
Stephanie Long, Curator of the Wingfield Heritage House, recapped the Cloudcroft Museum Festival held this past weekend, noting that the event provided valuable networking opportunities for the Wingfield Heritage House and other museums throughout the Southwest.
Police Chief Steve Minner and Deputy Chief Jason Janopolous discussed last week’s Department of Transportation Commissioners meeting, where a presentation was given on the Village’s new automated speed camera program. They also shared details about assisting a hiker on Moon Mountain who encountered a cow elk aggressively protecting her calf along the trail.
