Assistant Public Works Director Josh Long reported that paving work in Innsbrook Village is nearly complete, with only a few roads remaining. He also discussed repairs following last Thursday evening’s water main break on Sudderth Drive. Public Works crews have also been preparing for this weekend’s IRONMAN® event by improving the Grindstone parking area, repairing potholes, and sweeping roadways along the race course.
Deputy Manager Heath Dobrovolny provided an update on the 603 Mechem Housing Project, saying recent curb and gutter improvements performed well during last week’s rainfall. Paving is expected to begin soon.
Fire Chief Cade Hall said the Fourth of July weekend generated several calls involving open flames, though relatively few were related to fireworks. He also updated listeners on construction progress for the new Center Street fire station and repairs underway at Fire Station 1.
Emergency Manager Eric Queller reminded residents and visitors to remain alert for potential flooding as monsoon season continues, particularly in areas impacted by recent wildfire burn scars. He also reported that repairs are scheduled for the emergency warning siren at the White Mountain Sports Complex following intermittent issues during previous system tests.
Parks and Recreation Director Matthew Baird recapped successful Independence Day activities, including the July 3 Drone Show and the July 4 Color Run. He also noted that Grindstone Lake and the White Mountain Sports Complex are closed this week while crews prepare the venues for IRONMAN race operations.
Eddie Ryan, Manager of Events & Strategic Partnerships, and Max Little with IRONMAN® 70.3 Ruidoso discussed this weekend’s race activities, including Ironman Village at the White Mountain Sports Complex. They also shared an update on the department’s new Bike Patrol program, with four officers currently working toward certification.
Wingfield Heritage House Curator Stephanie Long invited families to attend Boots and Brands Family Fun Day on July 25 at the Wingfield Heritage House. She also highlighted the upcoming Cloudcroft Museum Festival on July 18.
