Emergency Manager Eric Queller provided an update on the Seven Cabins Fire burning north of Capitan following Thursday morning’s fatal plane crash. He reported that the fire has grown to more than 12,000 acres with 0% containment and also reminded residents about the second of three Flood Awareness Workshops taking place on Wednesday at 6:00 PM at the Convention Center.
Public Works Director Levi Beaty shared updates on several ongoing infrastructure projects, including the 603 Mechem Housing Project, the solar project at the Waste Water Treatment Plant, and the upcoming closure of Paradise Canyon, which is expected to last up to five weeks.
Public Works Administrative Specialist Isabel Martinez discussed the Village’s ICIP (Infrastructure Capital Improvement Plan), outlining the top five infrastructure priorities: sewer, housing, bridges, drainage, and water infrastructure. She also announced upcoming public ICIP meetings scheduled for May 21 and May 27.
Wingfield Heritage House Curator Stephanie Long talked about the museum being featured in the June edition of New Mexico Magazine.
Assistant Parks & Recreation Director Mark Coker updated listeners on cleanup efforts at Wingfield Park following the busy Lincoln Forest Ren Faire weekend and noted that the public pool and WIBIT are scheduled to open for the season this weekend.
Eddie Ryan, Manager of Events & Strategic Partnerships, discussed preparations for the upcoming Ironman event on July 12 and encouraged community members to volunteer.
Police Chief Steve Minner and Deputy Chief Jason Janopolous reviewed police activity from the previous week, including several DUI incidents and ongoing concerns regarding outdoor smoking violations. They also announced that two officers will graduate from the Police Academy and begin full duty next week.
